AKGEC is working hard to support training and retraining of faculty to develop and instruct geriatrics curriculum which incorporates best practices, interdisciplinary health care team approaches, ethnogeriatrics, clinical training and service learning models. The following funding opportunities will be available to faculty to help support this effort.

The proposed course may be an approved course (adapted to distance delivery or modified to include gerontology content, a new course, or a 500 level professional development course. Curriculum enhanced or developed courses/modules will be used to teach students and varied professionals about the challenges of aging, planning for positive aging and promoting an active, healthy lifestyle. AKGEC will award a $2000 mini-grant to a faculty member to integrate gerontology-focused community-based learning into an existing course. This course does not need to focus upon aging and gerontology exclusively, but at a minimum 10 % of the course content must pertain to aging; content about the challenges of aging, positive aging experiences, the aging process and optimizing opportunities for good health, active participation and economic security in order to enhance the quality of life as people age are possible focus areas.
Proposals may be submitted from faculty in business, education, health, natural or social sciences. AKGEC seeks to improve care, services and quality of life for older persons through education and training. Contact Rosellen Rosich, 907-786-1739 or afrmr@uaa.alaska.edu
